KIDS....YOU ARE WHAT YOU EAT by Celeste Lau

17 MAY 2018

The topic of food is very dear to the people of Malaysia. So much so that we find that obesity amongst our children is on the rise. Therefore, it was very apt that we have this topic for our May Coffee Morning.

We were very fortunate to have Ms Celeste Lau, Head of Dietetics at Sunway Medical to share with us the dietary needs of children. She started off with growth charts and how to read them, informing us of a handy app where you can input your child's details and get a graph and information on the child's growth. Next was of course, common eating problems that parents and children face and possible solutions and tricks that you can use to overcome these challenges.

You can't have a talk on diet and nutrition without information on calories . Ms Lau didn't disappoint and highlighted the changing caloric requirements as the child grows or changes his/her lifestyle pattern, ie become more active / sedentary. Ms Lau also explained her views on vitamin and/or mineral supplementation.

All in all, it was a very informative session. More

UNLOCKING YOUR CHILD'S POTENTIAL IN THE 21st CENTURY

by Dr Shen-li Lee

25 JANUARY 2018

This was a great talk to start off our Coffee Morning series for 2018, with the start of a new term of TIS parents and a new academic year for SST parents.

Dr Shen-li Lee conducted a very good workshop on "Unlocking Your Child's Potential in the 21st Century". She provided us, parents who were raised in the 20th century, with insights as to how different life is for children in this fast paced (technological) century and how we can best help them reach their potential.  She highlighted the importance of children learning soft skills, for them to experience failure so as to develop grit and having growth mindsets.

Christmas Bazaar

THE TENBY CHRISTMAS BAZAAR 2017

15 NOVEMBER 2017

Christmas came early again! It was another successful Christmas Bazaar! This time, it was a more festive one, with piped in Christmas music, students coming in to sing Christmas carols and vendors making the effort to dress up to the theme.

When the call for vendors went out, the response was overwhelming! We even had a waiting list for booth registrations. We do apologise to those who were not able to secure a booth, despite us opening up 8 more booths outside the EPC.

It was such a lovely way to help bring the school community closer together, foster teamwork, and spread some festive cheer. Thank you all for your support and early Christmas Greetings everyone!

Safeguarding

SAFEGUARDING & CHILD PROTECTION by Tom Robinson

5 OCTOBER 2017

Today was out first Coffee Morning for 2017 / 2018. Our speaker was Tom Robinson, Deputy Head Pastoral at Tenby Schools, Setia Eco Park. The workshop was well attended by parents from TIS and SST.

Tom was able to engage the parents in many group discussions as a means for them to come to a better understanding of the topic. We all left with greater awareness as to the possible abuses that children may be suffering from and how to identify the signs of abuse. He also shed light on some counselling work which he has done for students and experience in dealing with child protection throughout his years at school. Parents were informed that the teaching staff at school has been trained to handle such delicate matters.
